Insomnia Is A Student’s Worst Enemy
Are you one of those students who spend nights cramming for exams? Well, here’s bad news for you: if you do so, your efficiency is about 44 percent less, according to Dr. Jeffrey Ellenbogen of the Harvard Medical School.
On the night before your exam, if you go to sleep at 5 a.m. and wake up at 7 a.m., you are most likely to fail. Or, if you are very lucky you won’t fail, but you will still do half as well as you could have done. This happens because our short-term memory, which is responsible for remembering new things, works when we sleep.
But often you don’t get enough sleep not because you don’t want to, but because you can’t. Staying up at nights for a long period of time can eventually lead to insomnia. Or maybe you get too excited the night before the exam, which can affect your sleep. Then you should think about finding the best sleep aid.
Pills are not a solution for your sleeping problem. Anyone who took a sleeping pill knows the negative effects it has. Yes, you will sleep, but the next day you will be walking around like a zombie, unable to do any mental or physical work. The price you pay for one night’s sleep is too high.
So, you should think of natural cures for insomnia. They won’t affect your health or cognitive processes. They will just help you fall asleep.
You can even use natural sleep aids to help you prepare for an exam. The best way to memorize something is to sleep right after you have learned it. You can divide the exam material into several blocks, accumulating similar information into each block. Then, after learning one block, let your natural sleep aids help you fall asleep for a few hours. This way you will remember maximum amount of information for a long time.
After you have done so, get down to the next block with a fresh head and a clear space for new information.
